On a recent trip to Afghanistan, I was in Lashkar Gah and met this lady who is a sergeant in the local Counter Narcotics Unit. She picked up my helmet and asked to have a photo taken. I was told later that, in a former life, she was an interrogator and had skinned at least two Russian soldiers alive. A chance encounter on a risky trip - what have those beautiful eyes seen?
